In August 2004, Brian Hughes, Insolia Product Engineer, met with Erika Ebbel, the current Miss Massachusetts, who had just graduated from MIT, at the suggestion of MIT Alumni Association staff who thought Insolia Inserts would help Erika in her quest for the Miss America crown.
When Erika pulled out the shoes she wore in competition Brian laughed and said, "No way". Insolia Inserts hadn't been tested in anything over 3 inches before and these shoes pushed past 4 inches! Brian applied one of the few Insolia Insert prototypes that existed to her shoes and Erika stood up. Brian realized that this might be an historic moment and pulled his iPod out and started recording Erika's initial reaction to Insolia Inserts.

Transcript of Test of Insolia Inserts in 4 Inch Heels
EE - You don't feel like you are sliding forward as much.
BH - So you're wearing right now, ... ridiculous shoes...
EE - They should be about 4 inch, these are 4 inch heels.
BH - So, lets go walk around and see how it feels.
BH - So, this is making a difference?
EE - Yes.
BH - I'll be damned...(laughs)
EE - You don't feel like you are falling forward, as much, it does reduce the angle. They are way more comfortable than they used to be. That's amazing. Congratulations.
BH - Awesome! (laughs) Awesome - let's keep going here.
EE - These were the shoes I wore for my interview at Miss Massachusetts, and it was a pain to stand in them, it's actually not a pain any more.
BH - Ok, lets stand on the hard surface, make this as nasty as possible.
EE - It's not nasty at all - I'm very surprised - I really am! You don't know how painful these shoes are! And what's nice is usually when your foot is pushed forward, your toes, because its an open toed shoe,
BH - are jamming out?
EE - Are jamming out but you don't feel like...
BH - That's not happening now?
EE - No it's not.
